Post War of Vietnam's Time and What I've Learned...

As the Vietnam War started to come to an end, a Paris Peace Accord came as the result of talks the North Vietnamese Foreign Minister and the U.S. Sec. of State at the time, Henry Kissinger. The U.S. soldiers were withdrawn and P.O.W.'s were exchanged back to their rightful parties.

It seemed that soon after, the Communists' gunfire refused to come to a stop and in March of 1973, U.S. President Richard Milhouse Nixon said he would have to call his troops back to the frontlines if they continued to keep these actions up. Then in 1974, Nixon resigned due to the infamous Watergate Scandal. Gerald Ford took his place as the new President of the United States and the finances being given to the South Vietnamese reduced in size from $1 billion to $700 million. A change was occuring and the war continued. This was ultimately the decision of the U.S. Congress. The South Vietnamese in 1975, felt as though they had been abandoned by the U.S. military forces. They were let down by us and given little hope to continue their own fighting.

WHAT I'VE LEARNED...

Through this war and the research I have personally done, alongside my interview of a Vietnam veteran who was actually there, I have learned a ton of things I really had no idea about. War is not a pretty sight and yet the men there fighting continued to fight. Rights needed to be defined and peace needed to come about. Through a dark, dark situation following the acts of Communism, Americans started to fall in love with the people of Vietnam and started to realize that this might actually be what they needed to do. I loved learning about this war and even though many people have long forgotten the efforts of our soldiers-both dead and alive-I feel as though I will never forget this event. It was not just another war in a foreign country-it was a memory and a reality to the world. It was people's lives and people's sanity. It cost some men their limbs and cost some their lives. For others, it was an experience that might have left little to no damage to their physical bodies, but left a permanent scar on their hearts and minds.

God Bless our Vietnam Veterans-and the Veterans of any war anywhere!
